Plan
The Maine Office of Tourism developed its original Destination Management Plan in 2022 to guide the sustainable growth of tourism in Maine. With input and guidance from tourism stakeholders across the state, the plan was designed to balance the tourism economy with stewardship of Maine’s natural resources and culture, recognizing that supporting a strong quality of life for residents is essential to delivering a high-quality visitor experience.
In 2025, the Maine Office of Tourism refreshed the plan through a statewide listening process and updated research. The Destination Management Plan: 2025 Reset builds on the original framework and outlines a five-year strategy for tourism marketing and destination management that strengthens Maine’s tourism economy while continuing to prioritize stewardship, community collaboration, and the long-term sustainability of Maine’s people and places.
